Background
Elle Schneider is a filmmaker from New York City with over a decade of professional experience and dozens of credits behind the camera as a director and cinematographer. She is an inaugural member of the International Collective of Female Cinematographers, and writes about cinematography for the International Cinematographer’s Guild Magazine. She also co-created the Digital Bolex cinema camera.
Elle’s work as cinematographer spans more than fifty projects and includes narrative feature 6 LA Love Stories, starring Alicia Witt, Stephen Tobolowsky, Carrie Preston, and Matthew Lillard, doc That Guy Dick Miller, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival, and web series Future Girl and Geek & Sundry’s Caper, on which she shot second unit. She has lensed projects for Apple, Sigma Lenses, Atomos, and Panasonic, and recently shot and directed second unit on History’s new three-part series The Food That Built America, airing now.
As a director, Elle specializes in short-form narrative, music video, and branded content. She has directed music videos for Gangstagrass and Speedy Ortiz, whose My Dead Girl premiered with Vanity Fair, and Villain premiered with Billboard. Her short films, including Bliss Blue, JKTV, and Cuddle, have played at festivals like Slamdance, Sidewalk, HollyShorts, and Tallgrass.
That Guy Dick Miller
Elle worked as the cinematographer on the cult classic documentary, That Guy Dick Miller. The documentary follows veteran character actor Dick Miller, whose career in and outside of Hollywood has spanned almost 200 films across six decades, featuring a diverse range of interviews with directors, co-stars, and contemporaries. Twitch Film gave the film positive reviews, and Ain’t it Cool News considered it to be “a warm, worthy tribute to a national treasure!”
Working with Sigma Glass
Before fully becoming a member of the Sigma family, Elle worked with Sigma lenses on a handful of projects, including short films Near to Superstition, The Porch, and Hot Cake, now on a successful festival run.
Her newest Sigma-shot short, The Burning Glass, a meditative look at a woman escaping her past, and will be premiering on line soon.
Elle directed, Near to Superstition, a story about when two men strike gold out west who must make it back to Superstition before their secret is lost forever.
