Wild and Wonderful: Sigma 15mm F1.4 DC Contemporary

By Leonie Ebbert

Family reportages are so much more to me than just photo sessions. They are living stories from real life. That is exactly why they are my absolute passion. Children don’t have to perform — they are allowed to simply be. Loud, wild, curious, full of energy. During a family reportage with two adventurous little boys, the Sigma 15mm F1.4 DC | Contemporary lens for APS-C cameras accompanied me precisely through these special moments — indoors and outdoors, right in the middle of everyday life.

This lens offers tremendous advantages, especially when photographing children. The 15mm wide-angle focal length allows me to stay very close to the action without interrupting the moment. I don’t have to constantly keep my distance or give instructions. I move with the children and become part of the situation. This results in images that convey closeness, dynamism, and emotion. Particularly when there is a lot of movement, this is an invaluable advantage: running through the hallway, wild play in the garden, or spontaneous cuddles on the sofa can be captured naturally and effortlessly.

The wide F1.4 aperture also makes this lens a perfect companion for indoor reportages. Even in low light, I can work with fast shutter speeds and capture quick movements sharply — without using flash and without altering the atmosphere. The natural light remains, and the mood of the moment stays tangible. At the same time, the lens creates impressive depth, emphasizing what truly matters and guiding the viewer’s eye toward the emotions.

Especially with families and children, it is the small, often seemingly insignificant everyday moments that later carry the greatest meaning. Playing together, little arguments, loud laughter, movement, chaos — all of it. With the Sigma 15mm F1.4 DC | Contemporary, I can capture these moments as they truly are: honest, vibrant, and full of feeling.

This type of family shoot makes it possible to create memories that don’t feel staged, but instead show real life. And that is exactly what my heart beats for — authentic stories, genuine closeness, and all the wonderful, dynamic moments that make up family life.
