An Introduction to Photography 101, In Two Parts
Learn the basics of exposure and metering, lens selection, and camera settings as we explore the fundamentals of creating photographic images in this online workshop hosted by B&H Photo. This class will help you understand the way cameras think and the impact of the choices you make (or don’t make) operating them. We will also discuss the effects of focal length and aperture on your photographs and choosing the right lens for the job.
In Part 1, we will discuss the principles of photographic exposure, which camera settings have an effect on exposure, and other ways these settings impact our images as well. The interactions of exposure settings, and the limitations we face using them, will also be addressed.
In Part 2, we will learn the basics of camera lenses, limitations and appropriate uses, in order to select the right one for our next photo or purchase. Camera settings such as focus modes, metering, white balance and file types will be covered as well.
Image assignments will be given at the end of each class, with a critique of those images on the following weeks. There will be time for questions and answers, to help us all learn from each other and improve as photographers.
