When you are shooting in BULB mode, you can shut the frame as soon as a hot flare lights up the frame. You can tell that the shutter was open for several seconds prior to the burst by the obvious subject movement of the person on the sand and the shadows of railings of the boardwalk and overall ambient light in the frame from sources other than the fireworks.
